This morning it was around 10F. I heated up my trusty canvas garden shoes in the microwave,
dawned my insulated flannel shirt and went outside. Winter is such a joy!!! I walked down to
the pond, which had froze overnight. The shadows were long from the recently risen winter sun.
I took some pictures of the scene. One picture is the pond, those white formations are frozen
like water. Another picture is of some spider web like frosty stuff on top of the ice. The shadow
picture looking at the tree is facing the southeast rising sun. I had crossed the bridge to get that
shot. The next picture is of the freezing Louisiana Iris, you know they love that don't you? They
will survive this as I have them planted so the water will protect the rhizomes from freezing. Those
spider web like frost patterns are there also. The bridge is the bridge made by the previous owner
about 15 years ago. It is made with 4x4's 2x4's and 2x10's. It will hold a S-10 size pickup. The
man was an engineer. When I walked the Bridge those boards creaked like I had no idea that they
could. They were water soaked from a previous nights rain. The noise they made was deafening
in the solitude of my peaceful property. I could hear the echo of the noise. It was very impressive.
Here is the beard part. I felt absolutely no cold on my face. The extra Joy of this was that my nose
was running. The snot got into my mustache and beard. It froze almost instantly. I would sniffle,
and wiggle my nose or move my cheeks side to side. I could feel the rigidness of my beard, the snot
was frozen which made my beard feel like somewhat course bristles. It was a cool sensation. The
added bonus was stroking my beard, it just had a feeling that a man does not get in any other situation.
Here are some pictures of my morning constitutional. I am not a fan of winter, but as you can see their
is beauty in every season. It is not hard to find. I am glad to be living where I do, away from humanity.
Hope you guys enjoy the pictures and the story as much as I did this morning. GROW BABY GROW!!! Keith
