I've had a beard since 2007 but I've always kept it relatively short. I made the decision back in December 2013 to stop trimming it and just let it grow out. I'm shooting for a year with only weekly or bi-weekly (depending) cleanup trimming (no guard, just as it lays and zapping strays and keeping the sides and neck neat). I'm due for a new picture in a few weeks, but for now I'll post what I have which goes back to January 2nd which is the most recent. My routine used to be Bluebeard's Beard Wash 3x a week with Jamaican Castor Oil the night before the wash but I've cut down to washing with only cold water, using the beard wash only once a week (maybe twice if I'm having a horrible week) and stopping the Castor Oil completely. It was a mess, stunk and I really didn't think that it was helping much. Since stopping I can say I haven't noticed an appreciable difference. I get out of the shower, pat dry and go about my business until it dries completely. Then I brush it with a boars hair brush and apply Trader Joe's Jojoba. If I'm having a bad day I'll use Honest Amish Heavy Duty Beard Balm as well. The mustache may get a little bit of Honest Amish wax depending on the day. I have a lot of hairs that like to stick up through the mustache so this helps with that, as well as training it to the sides. I have some bare spots under my nose that have all but disappeared with training. December 2, 2013 January 2, 2014

Looks like a great start, if your going for a Yeard you may want to stop cutting a neck line and let it grow as well.

I'm extremely hairy and if I didn't it would be growing into my chest hair and along the sides of my neck as well. I have to shave the back of my neck weekly in between haircuts as it is. I'm of the opinion that if I didn't shave ANYTHING, I'd be a yeti

That's a solid beard man. Density and color are great. I can tell just by looking at it that you take good care of it too. How's that Honest Amish do for you? I'm about to the point where I'll need some beard wax and was thinking of going that route.

I don't use it much lately because the mustache is behaving.

Are there stores that carry beard balm, or do you have to get it off the internet? Barbershops?
